Michelle Thorla.

I am native Oregonian, happy wife and busy mother of two.

Along the way of my life, I have followed a wandering path of discovery and growth that has deepened my fascination with the wonder of birth, as a sacred and magical rite of passage and transformation in life.  I believe every woman deserves a chance to trust her instincts, and to birth as free from fear as possible.

In 1999, while attending Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, I did some volunteer work for Barbara Harper (author Gentle Birth Choices) at Global Child Maternal Health in Wilsonville, helping to prepare for the first International Waterbirth Conference.  After that experience, and attending the conference, I knew that water birth was for me!  In 2001, I found I was pregnant with my daughter and my studies at OCOM were put on what became a permanent hold when she was born.  I knew I would never finish my work there, as my heart was ever being pulled toward birth work.

I completed my Doula Training through Birth Arts International in April, 2007, and I'm currently working my way towards Doula certification as well as midwifery studies via Ancient Art Midwifery Institute.

While pursuing my *birth passion*, I continue to work in the transcription business.  I'm also cofounder of a local interfaith family community, Salmon and Hazelnut Family Fellowship (SAHFF) Any time I get the chance I love to spend time on my other hobbies - Knitting and hand-spinning.  I also enjoy being with my family outdoors hiking, camping, fishing, and spending time on the beach any chance I can get.  When time allows, I also enjoy pursuing the web of our family tree through genealogy.
